Each year I set both personal and career goals, and I only meet about half of them. If I'm being honest, it's difficult living in a disabled body and my health limitations keep me from reaching my full potential. However, I'd be lying if I said this was restricted to my physical illnesses. ADHD (partially) runs my life and I've been working with a great therapy team to balance both medication and executive function tools. I thought maybe if I was transparent with my friends and followers about meeting these goals, it might both hold me accountable and allow me to be excited about sharing my adventures and accomplishments as I hit goals throughout the year. So, without further ado...

here are my 2026 goals:

  • Read one book a month for fun.

  • Create one painting a month.

  • Write one free verse poem a month.

  • Write 6 new haibun.

  • Photograph 6 new locations

  • Write 3 essays

  • Submit one new manuscript.

  • Submit to 30 poetry contests.

  • Submit to 10 new poetry journals.

  • Listen to 12 musicals I'm not familiar with:

    • Porgy & Bess

    • Oliver!

    • Camelot

    • Bye Bye Birdie

    • Man of La Mancha

    • 1776

    • Merrily We Roll Along

    • The Mystery of Edwin Drood

    • The Color Purple

    • In the Heights

    • The Prom

    • Hell's Kitchen

  • Attend 6 new performances

  • Cook 2 new healthy recipes a month.

  • Write 2 book reviews per month.

  • Time social media daily.

  • Less TV; more reading, writing, and art.

  • Strengthen my body with physical therapy.

  • Work up to walking 10 minutes per day.
